Iran and Turkey expressed their regret over the loss of life and property due to floods in Pakistan
Ankara/Tehran: The Presidents of Iran and Turkey have contacted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif by telephone and expressed their regret over the floods in Pakistan and the loss of life and property caused by it.
Iran’s President Ibrahim Raisi telephoned Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and expressed his grief and heartfelt sympathy over the flood disasters in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister briefed the Iranian President on the recent flood situation regarding its devastation, upon which Ibrahim Raisi assured full assistance to flood victims and restoration of infrastructure.
The Prime Minister told the Iranian President that an appeal has been made for international help regarding the flood situation and the losses, and also appreciated Iran’s stand of always supporting the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Apart from this, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan contacted Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif by phone and expressed his regret over the loss of lives and property caused by the flood. The Prime Minister briefed the Turkish President on the latest flood situation in Pakistan and the government’s efforts to provide relief on an emergency basis.
The prime minister said that Pakistan has been under the grip of an exceptional monsoon season with record rainfall since mid-June 2022, resulting in widespread loss of lives, livelihoods and infrastructure.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that despite the severe infrastructure damage caused by the rains, the government is making all-out efforts to reach the affected areas and help people relocate and deliver aid. The Prime Minister said that Pakistan has prepared a ‘United Nations Flash Appeal’ which will be launched on August 30, 2022 and hoped that the international community would play its part in meeting the funding requirements of the Flash Appeal.
