Elon Musk’s announcement of connecting a Tesla car to a Starlink satellite
California: Tesla Inc. owner Elon Musk has said that he is not only now connecting Tesla cars to his Starlink satellites, but also installing cell phone communications antennas in second-generation Starlink Internet satellites, first for T-Mobile in the US and then for T-Mobile in the US. Other phone networks will provide internet to companies where the signal does not reach.
After Elon Musk’s announcement, when he was asked in a tweet to connect Tesla cars to the Starlink satellite, he replied in the affirmative. However, currently Tesla cars can be connected to US network AT&T’s network.
Elon Musk did not give further details. He has definitely said that cellular network is possible from satellite. Their Starlink system will be capable of providing two to four megabytes per second of connectivity and can be delivered to anyone within range.
However, the service will not be efficient enough to show live streaming video from the car over the Internet, but Elon Musk said that remote areas are better than no internet at all.
On the other hand, Tesla itself has partnered with the American cellular company to provide standard connectivity in its vehicles which is lifetime. It also includes navigation and maps i.e. Google Maps.
It should be noted that Tesla has not yet said when it will connect its cars to Starlink.
