Albania orders Iranian diplomats to leave country over cyber attacks

Albania has ordered Iranian diplomats and embassy staff to leave the country within 24 hours following an investigation into a cyber attack in July.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said in a video statement sent to the media that the government has decided to end diplomatic relations with Iran immediately.

“This extreme measure is actually a response to the cyber attack that has crippled public services, erased digital systems and hacked state records, stolen official internet electronic communications and created chaos and insecurity in the country,” he added. There was a risk of aggravation.
There was no immediate reaction from the Iranian embassy in this regard.

The US also said it had concluded after weeks of investigations that Iran was behind the July 15 cyber attack and said it would support its NATO ally.
