Afghanistan’s winning start in Asia Cup 2022

Dubai: Afghanistan opened their account by defeating Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the opening match of the Asia Cup.

In the ongoing match in Dubai, on the invitation of Afghanistan, the Sri Lankan team batted first and scored 105 runs in 19.4 overs and gave Afghanistan a target of 106 runs to win.

The Sri Lankan batsmen looked helpless against the spinning balls of the Afghanistan bowlers and only 3 batsmen could get into double figures. Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 38, Chamika Karunaratne 31 and Danushka Gunathilaka scored 17 runs.
On behalf of Afghanistan, Fazlul Haq Farooqui took 3 wickets, Mujeebur Rehman and Mohammad Nabi took 2, 2 wickets and Naveen ul Haq took 1 wicket.

Chasing the target, Afghanistan got a good opening and Rahmanullah Garbaz was dismissed for 40 runs on 83, then Ibrahim Zardan was dismissed for 15 on 103.

Hazratullah Zazai scored 40 and Najeebullah Zardan remained not out by scoring 2 runs. Afghanistan achieved the set target in 10.1 overs for the loss of 2 wickets.
